Specialist Breast Imaging & Assessment

We understand that the evaluation of breast symptoms can be stressful. At Canberra Breast, you will be cared for by experienced specialist breast radiologists and sonographers who are here to support you every step of the way.

Our clinic provides specialist breast ultrasound, biopsy and breast imaging review. If a mammogram is also needed, we arrange it with our imaging partners so both studies happen on the same day. Our team takes time to explain findings clearly and answer your questions.

We are now accepting bookings and referrals, with first appointments from 30 June 2026 at Unit 13, Level 1, Brindabella Specialist Centre, 5 Dann Close, Garran ACT 2605. Book online or email your referral to referrals@canberrabreast.com.

Book an appointment

The easiest way to book is online. You can also email us your referral — we accept referrals written on any referral form, even if they are addressed to another imaging provider.

Please note: imaging is bulk billed, but a specialist assessment fee applies. Once your online booking is confirmed, we will email you with a secure link to pay the fee. See our fees for details.

Email referrals to referrals@canberrabreast.com, or call us on (02) 5114 4899.

What Your Appointment Involves

Unlike a standard imaging appointment, your radiologist reviews your imaging with you on the day, discusses the findings directly, and communicates with you and your referring doctor to coordinate any follow-up required.

Depending on your clinical needs, your appointment may include:

  • Review of any prior imaging
  • Discussion of imaging findings
  • Specialist breast imaging assessment
  • Biopsy counselling and consent, if required
  • Coordination of ongoing care with your GP or specialist team

Services We Offer

  • Specialist breast ultrasound
  • Breast biopsy
  • Clip insertion (a small marker placed to identify a biopsy site or tumour location, used to guide future surgery or treatment)
  • Review of outside mammograms and breast imaging
  • Second opinions
  • Specialist breast imaging assessment
  • Coordination of ongoing care with your GP and specialists

I Have a Referral — What Do I Do?

The steps depend on what your referral includes. Please check which pathway applies to you.

You can use your referral with us even if it is addressed to another provider — we accept referrals written on any referral pad.

My referral is for

Mammogram + ultrasound ± biopsy

One referral, one visit. Forward your referral to us and we coordinate everything — your mammogram with our imaging partners and your ultrasound with us, both on the same day.

  1. 1

Email your referral to referrals@canberrabreast.com, or book online at bookings.canberrabreast.com

  2. 2

We coordinate your mammogram with one of our imaging partners and schedule your ultrasound with us on the same day

  3. 3

You attend both appointments in a single visit — we access all images directly, so there is nothing to collect or carry

  4. 4

Your specialist breast radiologist reviews your mammogram and ultrasound together and discusses the findings with you

  5. 5

If biopsy is required, this can often be performed during the same visit

We coordinate your mammogram with our trusted imaging partners so both studies are performed on the same day and reported together by your radiologist.

Fees & Billing

Imaging is bulk billed.

Canberra Breast charges a private specialist breast assessment fee for radiologist review, discussion of results and care coordination. This fee is separate from any Medicare-billed imaging or procedure services.

Specialist Breast Assessment Fee

$150

Specialist Procedural Assessment & Care Coordination Fee (if biopsy required)

$300

The assessment fee covers your radiologist's review of your referral and relevant prior imaging, discussion of your results, and coordination of follow-up care with your GP or specialist team. If an image-guided biopsy or procedure is performed, the procedural assessment fee applies instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

Yes — a referral from your GP, specialist or other doctor is required. We accept referrals written on any referral form, even if it is addressed to another imaging provider. You can email your referral to referrals@canberrabreast.com or bring it to your appointment.

Can I book online?

Yes. The easiest way to book is online at bookings.canberrabreast.com. You can also email your referral to referrals@canberrabreast.com, or call us on (02) 5114 4899, and our team will arrange a suitable time.

Can you review imaging performed elsewhere?

Yes. We can review mammograms, ultrasounds and MRI studies performed at other clinics and correlate them with your imaging on the day. In most cases we can access your outside images directly, so you do not need to collect or carry them.

What happens if a biopsy is required?

If an area needs further assessment, an ultrasound-guided breast biopsy can often be performed during the same visit. Your radiologist will explain the procedure, answer your questions and obtain your consent before proceeding.

What if my mammogram was normal but I still have symptoms?

A normal mammogram does not always rule out a problem, particularly with dense breast tissue or a specific symptom such as a lump or focal pain. A new or ongoing symptom should still be assessed — often with breast ultrasound as the next step.
